John Drainie (1916 -- 1966) mainstay of CBC radio drama series in the late 40s and early 50s, was generally considered the finest radio actor in the world. His daughter Bronwyn wrote his biography: 'Living the Part'. The John Drainie Award is presented each year by ACTRA.
Kate Reid O.C. (1930 -- 1993) was one of Canada's most famous and gifted actress. She later married Austin Willis C.M. (1917 -- 2004)

Rosemary Harris, a remarkable New York stage actress, won an 1994 Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Wife of the late actor and director Ellis Rabb (1959-67), she married novelist and screenwriter John Ehle. Their daughter Jennifer Ehle is also an actress.
Helen Burns, a great comic actress, later married Michael Langham, the legendary head of Ontario's Stratford Theatre. She won the Laurence Olivier Award (1994) for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for 'The Last Yankee' at the Duke of York's in Brighton, England.

Paul Almond directed three episodes of this 39-part series - The Rustler, Johnny Wolfe (lp:
Laurence Zahab a.ka. Dane) and Marked Man - for Crawley-McConnell. Gilles Pelletier was the
star of the series, which was telecast on the CBC beginning October 28, 1959.
This marked the beginning of Paul's relationship with the great First Assistant Director Peter Carter (1933 – 1982) who later himself became a fine action director for cinema. On his first feature, The Rowdyman (Gordon Pinsent), he met and married Linda Goranson.

This script, a collaboration between Paul and Rudi, came from Rudi's experiences as a raw young soldier in the German army in WWII.
Paul cast all three performers from the National Theatre school, giving them their first professional roles.
Heath Lamberts, C.M., (1941 – 2005) became a star at Niagara On The Lake, and Diane Leblanc a noted stage director.
Donnelly Rhodes distinguished himself on US televison, and married Martha Buhs, who changed her name to Henry after Donlley's mother, the foremost TV critic in Canada, Ann Henry of the Winnipeg Tribune.
Forest Rangers series:
Paul Almond directed seven episodes of this series for Associated Screen Productions in the
summer of 1963: Spike, Dog Catcher, Bear Trap, The Dog, Brannigan's Daughter, Uncle Raoul
and the Bear and The Bear Story (all by Lindsay Galloway). The series was filmed on location in
Ontario, and was telecast on the CBC program "Razzle Dazzle" beginning October 15, 1963.
The producer Maxine Samuels (1922 – 2001) went on to produce the St. Lawrence Seaway series.

Accorded the Special Diploma of Honour at the Prague International Television Festival in 1965.
This documentary was continued as 14-up, 21-up, 28-up, 35-up, 42-up, and 49-Up by Michael Apted, one of Almond's two researchers on this first show. The other, Gordon McDougall, went into live theatre, and came to America to Chair Drama at University of Oklahoma before returning to the UK.
Paul and Tim had dreamed up the idea in a London Pub and Sidney (later Lord) Bernstein, Head of Granada Televison, gave Paul carte blanche to make this documentary as part of the World in Action series. (See separate section under 7Up)
Paul Samuelson was one of the three brothers who founded the famed equipment rental house in the UK.

Paul chose the distinguished French Canadian writer Marie Claire Blais' drama to inaugurate the first CBC network drama produced in color.
This became the first (perhaps the last?) bilingual drama ever produced, with the same cast playing in both productions for CBC English and Radio Canada in the two official languages.
